Romanian president Klaus Iohannis has notified the Constitutional Court on the Criminal Code changes proposed by the PSD-ALDE coalition. Opposition parties had also notified the Court, and the judges responded that they would discuss the notices on September 17.
The president is challenging the way the law was debated and adopted in the Parliament, claiming that it breached several articles of the Constitution.
The notice also includes a long list of arguments related to the law’s content, including provisions regarding abuse in office, influence peddling, bribery, releasing case information, redefining criminal groups, and limitation periods.
Judges from the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) have also announced that they have notified the Constitutional Court on unconstitutional aspects included in the new Criminal Code.
