An excellent team is the main driver of a company’s success. Add plenty of entrepreneurial vision and the courage to be innovative and you find the recipe for success of Ascendis, currently the largest local training and organizational development consultancy company.

In its 15 years of presence on the Romanian training and consultancy market, Ascendis has managed to become the market leader and develop several business lines, in its attempt to assemble a highly diversified portfolio of products and services. Andrei Gosu, the general manager of Ascendis, says the company’s success has one source: its team. “We are constantly looking for people with relevant experience in different fields of activity, both pragmatic and innovative, and inviting them to join us,” he says. He explains that the company’s focus on innovation has a very credible explanation. “We are living in times when if you don’t innovate, you die quickly, regardless of your field of activity.”

Since it was established back in 1997, the Ascendis team has sought to offer a set of instruments in the field of organizational development. As a result, it is now the largest training and consultancy company in this field, with over 140 regular customers and 35 consultants and facilitators. “Training sessions and corporate events (team building, conferences and conventions) are just two of the levers that managers can use to develop their teams and companies. In addition, there is the human resources consultancy, but that is not the only thing. Ascendis has naturally developed new business lines like personnel evaluation and development centers, consultancy for the optimization of processes and the diagnosis of organizational culture.

Gosu adds that the executive coaching services that are part of  Ascendis’s portfolio are a natural continuation of the training sessions that the company implements for its customers. “It is a familiar and effective interaction whose role is to consolidate the abilities and skills needed for a position in an organizational chart. More and more organizations are adding coaching and mentoring sessions to their training programs using both internal and external resources,” adds Gosu.

At present the Ascendis group is formed of seven companies: Ascendis Consulting (specialized in training and corporate events), Ascendis Process Management (providing consultancy for the optimization of processes), We Know How (consultancy for personnel evaluation and development through the Harrison Assessments system), Imaginario (logistic services associated with training programs and corporate events), EuCom Business Language (foreign language courses and translation), Smart Experience (experience presentations, well-being) and Ascendis Moldova (a company that provides the full range of Ascendis services in the Republic of Moldova).

“Last year we decided to enter  the Moldavian market. We found good trainers – Russian speakers – there. Besides, on the medium term we intend to develop our business on the Russophile and Russophone markets using these trainers,” adds Gosu. Asked about the importance of the consultancy services that Ascendis can provide to a company that operates in Romania, he says, “If we accept the fact that in a very competitive market the main factor of differentiation is formed by the people that make up a team, the answer is clear”.

As for future plans, Gosu says that as Ascendis is an environment with a strong entrepreneurial culture, every year the team comes up with new initiatives. “Some of them develop further, validating the initial business idea,” says the general manager. He adds that one of the company’s immediate intentions is to integrate and consolidate two of its newest business lines: EuCom Business Language and Smart Experience. “Another focus is the virtual environment. At present one of our colleagues is developing an online learning platform where we will focus mainly on live trainer led courses and self pace ones on a secondary plan. We thereby follow the international trend in the field,” concludes the general manager.
