Romania’s unemployment rate remains stable at 7.1 percent in February, says Eurostat

Unemployment in Romania fell by 0.1 percent in February reaching 7.1 percent against the previous month, but remained similar to February 2011, according to seasonally-adjusted data from Eurostat.

In the Euro zone, unemployment slightly increased to 10.8 percent, while in the EU 27 it rose to 10.2 percent in February. However, in February 2011, unemployment in the Euro zone and EU 27 stood at 10 percent and 9.5 percent.

The lowest unemployment rates were recorded in February in Austria, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany, with 4.2 percent, 4.9 percent, 5.2 percent and 5.7 percent. Meanwhile, the highest rates were in Spain and Greece, with 23.6 percent and 21 percent last December.

In Romania, the unemployment rate in males was 7.5 percent and 6.7 percent for females. Youth unemployment stood at 24.8 percent last December, above the EU 27 average of 22.1 percent.
