Labour market sees increased demand in certain areas, despite current crisis

While many areas of the labour market have been dramatically affected by the recent developments of the Coronavirus pandemic, with retail and HORECA suffering the most, as Business Review recently reported in an exclusive analysis, other areas not only have maintained their pre-pandemic levels, but have also seen an increase. Business Review got in touch with Sorina Faier, Managing Partner at Elite Searchers, to find out which industries have been the most active on the labour market and what type of positions and roles are the most sought after by companies these days.

Unsurprisingly, the IT industry is one of those areas. For many IT companies, remotework, or smartwork, how some like to call it, had been already implemented before the pandemic, so as far as they’re concerned, it’s business as usual even in the current context.

“Even if the labour market is affected, and, consequently, we, as an executive search firm, as well, we nonetheless note that there is a more increased demand in certain areas for certain roles. Demands in the IT area have increased by 30%. Approximately 70% of the demands are for specialists like Java Developers or PHP Specialists, 25% for middle-management roles such as Team Leaders and only 5% for top managers in the IT industry.” Says Sorina Faier, Managing Partner at Elite Searchers.

Another area which has seen an increase in recruitment is the financial field.

“We have also noticed a higher demand for the roles in the financial field. Financial controllers are in great demand, 50% being newly-established roles and 50% replacements.” Continues Sorina.

Online roles, in media and marketing or in Business Process Outsourcing, are also sought after by companies.

“Recruitment for online roles has also increased. We have 20% more requests for Media Specialists and Online Chief Marketing Officers.

There have been requests for top managers like Operations Managers or middle managers such as Project Managers in this period also in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. They also serve clients from the IT area or telecommunications. Salaries in the BPO have remained unchanged. At present, an Operations Manager earns a net salary of up to EUR 5,000, a Project Manager of up to EUR 3,000 and a Team Leader of up to EUR 2,000. An IT specialist with a 3-year seniority may earn a net salary of up to EUR 2,000, and the ones with more than 7-year seniority may reach a net salary of up to EUR 5,000.” Concludes the Elite Searchers Managing Partner.
