Only 23 of 147 Romanian hospitals meet international standards

A study by the National Authority for Quality Management in Health (ANMCS) emphasized the fact that only 23 hospitals out of the 147 assessed in Romania according to internationally recognized standards meet the accreditation conditions.

Another 106 hospitals also partially meet accreditation conditions and are under a 12-month surveillance.

”Only 23 hospitals out of the 147 assessed so far in accordance with these standards meet the accreditation conditions. A number of 106 of the 147 evaluated only partly meet the accreditation conditions and will be under the supervision of ANMCS for 12 months, during which the responsible bodies have to get involved and support them in order to increase their compliance levels. 18 evaluated hospitals do not meet the accreditation conditions,” said ANCMS.

According to the study, until this date, ANMCS has received no reports from the Health Ministry or any other structure regarding the non-conformities that could lead to a withdrawal of accreditation.

The sanitary units operate on the basis of the functional sanitary authorization issued by the Public Health Departments, and not on the basis of the accreditation certificate.

”ANMCS has repeatedly signaled the deficiencies in issuing the sanitary authorizations for operation and asked for their correction. Currently, hospitals continue to operate with plans to comply with sanitary authorizations, which explains a large part of the negative aspects discussed in the public space,” warns the institution.
