MEDON.ro reaches 40 partner clinics in 12 cities in Romania and re-enters Madrid in September

When COVID-19 was closing down our society and businesses across Romania in March, the people behind Sibus Romania found themselves in a desperate situation, which brought life to MEDON.ro | Medici Online.

“We realised the urgency and desperation within 2 days of analysing searches on Google and decided that our idea from Sibus could help dental patients in need! We were receiving calls from desperate parents and elderly people crying on the phone in pain,” says Patrick Nordstjærne,  founder of Sibus – Medon group.

A government ordinance had closed down 99% of all privately owned dental clinics in Romania, and traumatised dental patients were desperately looking for pain relief and treatment. On day 3, we were coordinating the contact between our first emergency patients and 4-5 clinics that were open in Bucharest in this period. Patients called us and we were connecting them directly with clinics in their neighbourhood in minutes.

“MEDON is a 100% free service for patients – a very nice idea that brings transparency and quick result to patients in a market that seems like a jungle to many,” according to Patrick Nordstjærne.

In week 2 and 3 we tested our service in Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Craiova and Brasov and in just 1 month, our service was operating effectively in 6 cities. A crazy period and so many desperate people that we almost couldn’t believe it. In the office, we still talk about “Tuesday after Easter” when 54 dental patients called MEDON.ro in one working day!!

We have been working with online consumer requests and matching them with lawyers at Sibus for more than 6 years, so we had all the know-how, the platform and templates in place. We worked around the clock to adapt our tools to our new service at MEDON.ro, this is how we managed to succeed in such a short time.

“All our accountants, auditors and lawyers at Sibus.ro literally stopped working from one day to another in March. I don’t know if you can imagine how that affected our online business? Yes, we went into hibernation overnight,” Patrick Nordstjærne remembers. “But we were lucky unlike so many others who lost everything.”

After 2 months of operating MEDON.ro in Romania, we decided to test our service in Spain also. We started it in Valencia and moved onwards to Madrid. Everything is online and our service operates through phone and internet to any place in the world, assuming that we have people here at our office in Bucharest who speak the language.

We are planning also to enter Italy, France and UK within the next 12 months and are currently negotiating with investors to realise these plans. Further down the road, we intend to bring patients from Western Europe to Romania for “Dental Tourism”, because Romanian doctors are so much cheaper and their clinics and the service they deliver meet all international standards. We hope to bring 300 European patients to Romania next year and to double that number in 2022.

“Romania is the perfect hub for an activity like ours. We have access to the cheapest infrastructure in Europe and well educated people, who speak all the languages needed. Personally, I am very excited and looking forward to bringing dental tourists here. We estimate that each tourist will spend at least 6.000 EUR here on various treatments, hotel, catering, transport and sightseeing. Those are very big numbers when you add some real size to this,” Patrick Nordstjærne concludes.
