Given that, in the last years, more and more physicians have chosen to stay or to return to Romania, MedLife, leader of the Romanian private medical services market, supports medical performance by developing a continuous innovation and learning hub for the physicians within the Group.

This initiative is established around the commitment undertaken by the company, to make  Romania well and translates not only as training and high specialization opportunities offered to physicians but also as benefits for patients with the increase of the service portfolio and of the quality of the medical act.

“In the last 3-4 years, the exodus of physicians has slowed down, more and more physicians with high qualifications choose to stay and work in Romania. In addition, the trend of Romanian physicians who left the country, especially surgeons, but not only, to return to their country has become more and more evident, given the fact that now they can perform complex interventions and treatments at the same quality standards as top hospitals in the West. Private hospitals, mostly, offer them the conditions, equipment, and technologies they need to do their job with passion and with the added bonus of having their family and friends near. In order to support this trend and, at the same time, being aware of the fact that a quality medical act depends to a great extent on the competence and experience of the personnel, we want to offer physicians the opportunity for continuous training and learning in a dedicated centre. Experience exchanges involve MedLife physicians and physicians from renowned centres outside the country, with the goal of becoming highly specialised in medical interest areas. In other words, we provide our physicians with all the conditions to encourage them to obtain medical performance, at home, in Romania”, declared Mihai Marcu, Chairman and CEO MedLife.

Bariatric surgery module supported by the physicians at MedLife Hospital in Brașov

The MedLife continuous innovation and learning hub targets several medical and surgical specialities. The first module started in May and is still in progress, being dedicated to bariatric surgery or the surgical treatment of obesity, where the main participants are general surgeons from the MedLife Hospital in Brașov, but also with the participation of physicians from other hospitals that are part of the Group. Basically, Romanian physicians have the opportunity to collaborate with renowned physicians from France, to learn and to improve their techniques used in bariatric surgery.

Initially, the schedule of this module entailed the participation of surgeons from Brașov to a series of workshops carried out in Nice, Toulon and Marseille, to refine gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, endosleeve techniques, as well as to get to know the Allurion gastric balloon. Afterwards, at the hospital in Brașov, MedLife received several physicians from France that performed a demonstrative surgery. At the same time, the team of Romanian physicians actively participated in obesity surgeries carried out in the centres abroad, using the previously mentioned techniques, under the guidance of French physicians with vast experience.

The learning module for the Brașov team will conclude this autumn with the hosting of a hands-on congress at MedLife Hospital, with the participation of Professor  David Nocca, a renowned surgeon from the University Hospital in Montpellier. He will present to Romanian physicians an innovative technique, Nissen Sleeve, for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Following the experience exchange, at MedLife Hospital in Brașov, patients in the country can benefit from the expertise of Romanian physicians in the application of the most efficient techniques to treat obesity.

Collaboration with the largest training centre for laparoscopic surgery in Europe

The following learning module dedicated to MedLife physicians will be focused on laparoscopic surgery, which already had made its first steps for the conclusion of a collaboration with the largest training centre in the field in Europe, located in Strasbourg. This partnership will allow the participation of Romanian physicians to top notch scientific events, and their presence in the minimum invasive surgery ultramodern centres abroad, as part of a rigorous process of learning and training.

Alongside, MedLife continues to constantly support the medical education segment by organising and supporting events dedicated to the 3000 physicians within the Group and also to healthcare professionals from external units. Moreover, in the first six months of 2023, the company organised over 10 workshops and webinars for MedLife physicians, for various specialities, and supported no less than 9 national congresses, where over 4000 physicians from the entire country made their appearance.
