The government wants to increase the number of public sector workers in Health and Social Care who are eligible to receive hazard pay, according to a Government Decision project recently launched into public debate by the Health Ministry.

If this project is passed, the 12-15 percent hazard pay of the base salary for work in special conditions like stress or risk would also be offered to medical-sanitary specialised personnel from medical practices organised in nurseries.

Auxiliary personnel in nurseries would also benefit from hazard pay of 12-15 percent of base salary.

Hazard pay for extremely dangerous conditions, of 50-75 percent of base salary, will be awarded to personnel in:

  • Social care units/centers that offer services to adults and children with physical and mental disabilities;
  • Social care units/centers that are exclusively dedicated to individuals who are HIV positive or have AIDS or tuberculosis;
  • Behavioural rehabilitation units and social care units/centers dedicated to individuals with neuromotor, neuropsychomotor, neuromuscular or neurological rehabilitation needs.

Hazard pay of 25-50 percent of base salary will also be awarded to:

  • Personnel in social care units/centers without accommodation that work with minors who have done criminal acts and those from emergency intervention services/emergency reception centers;
  • Professional personal assistants during periods when they are caring for an individual with severe physical or mental disability, in addition to the 25 percent extra pay they already receive.

Hazard pay of 15 percent of base salary will be awarded to professional personal assistance during periods when they are caring for individuals with serious disability, as well as to those working in home care services for the elderly.

Other workers who will get 15 percent hazard pay will be those from:

  • Social care units/centers for palliative care
  • Social care units/centers offering services to dependent elderly persons
  • Social care units/centers who work with the homeless adults and children
  • Social care units/centers who offer services for disabled adults and children

The 15 percent hazard pay will be awarded to professional maternal assistants for each child they care for, starting with the second child.
