Global Supply Chain leader, HAVI, has announced impressive sustainability benefits after six months of operations in its largest distribution center in Europe.

The 21,000 sq.m. facility at the Chitila Logistics Hub is expected to deliver a reduction in CO2 emissions of 7,000 tonnes over the ten-year lease period. This is equivalent to removing 6,3 million km of diesel-powered truck driving from Romania’s roads.

HAVI, the global supply chain company that provides end-to-end services to many of the world’s best known quick service restaurant brands, has been operating in the modern, built-to-suit logistics hub developed by Globalworth and Global Vision in Chitila, near the Bucharest ring road, since October 2021.

Consolidating from three smaller DCs has enabled HAVI in Romania to optimize its operations and increase its temperature-controlled storage capacity – all while reducing overall CO2 emissions, in-line with its Science-based Target of 40% less CO2 by 2030. HAVI currently serves 12 customers and delivers to 710 customer locations across Romania, with additional capacity available now to serve new customers and with further potential for future expansion at the Chitila Logistics Hub.

“This modern, sustainable facility, with its capacity for future growth, further consolidates HAVI’s position as a market leader, especially in the Quick Service Restaurant sector. We look forward to building on this platform as the first-choice logistics and supply chain partner for new and existing customers across Romania and beyond”, stated Raul Togoe, Business Development Director – Romania, Bulgaria & Serbia at HAVI.

“Customers turn to HAVI to optimize their Supply Chains because of our commitment to quality, safety, sustainability, and innovation,” adds Juliane Liebig, Senior Manager Corporate Real Estate, HAVI Supply Chain. “Our new modern distribution facility near Chitila is a great example of how HAVI – together with developers Global Vision & Globalworth – is making use of new standards, cutting-edge construction techniques and sustainable solutions such as modern cooling technology, natural cooling agents, intelligent lighting systems and more, to reduce our impact on the environment. The modern space also contributes to employee satisfaction and productivity.”

“We set ourselves three priorities when selecting our new location to consolidate our Romanian logistics operations: Ensuring excellent, cost-efficient service to current and future customers, reducing our environmental impact in-line with our Science-based Target, and providing a more pleasant working space for our employees,” explains Christian Nowak – Senior Vice President, Region East Europe, HAVI Supply Chain. “Following a thorough analysis, Chitila Logistics Hub turned out to be the best option, also because Globalworth proved to be a reliable and agile partner, with a fair and proactive attitude.”

The built-to-suit unit comprises of several areas with different temperature ranges, and other interior and exterior amenities which support and optimize the daily operations. In terms of refrigeration technology, this project is a novelty for the Romanian market, as it foresees the use of glycol for cooling, a solution which is the key factor behind the outstanding reduction of CO2 emissions.

We are honoured that a leading company in its industry has chosen us for its central warehouse in Romania. In addition to the storage spaces and offices, we also provided the arrangement of the spaces with temperature-controlled areas, a direction in which Globalworth Industrial began to develop more and more. We assure HAVI that all our efforts will be directed towards the continuation and consolidation of this valuable partnership, said Mihai Zaharia, Globalworth Romania Investment Director and Globalworth Group Capital Markets Director.

During the past couple of years, the standard logistics unit has undergone a reshaping process to accommodate current & estimated demands, and the HAVI project best exemplifies this shift, through features such as: implementation of state-of-the-art technologies as a consequence of focusing on sustainability and efficiency, flexible design to allow accommodation of new lines of business if required in the future, and employee-oriented attitude by means of creating office spaces focused on the well-being of users, rather than on functionality, which was the norm for logistics units in the past. Logistics hubs are becoming complete business ecosystems, and our role has consequently evolved from warehouse builders to creators and enablers of growth and sustainability for communities”, added Sorin Preda, CEO & Founder of Global Vision.

Chitila Logistics Hub, the project developed by Global Vision and Globalworth to the NW of Bucharest city, already accommodates major companies such as Mega Image, Green Net and Alliance Healthcare Romania. Due to proximity to city ring road and access to public transportation, the park provides the optimal environment for a business ecosystem, as highlighted by most tenants, including HAVI, which have decided to also move their administrative offices to the park.  The development of the project run its natural course and continued rapidly, amid requests for logistics and light production spaces, and by July 2022 an additional area of 37,000 sqm will be finalized.
