Romania will soon open its first urban motorway, as the Transport Ministry prepares to allow circulation on a 3 km section in northern Bucharest.
The building works on the Popasului-Petricani section of Bucharest-Ploiesti motorway, part of A3 motorway, are in the final stage, according to the Transport Ministry.
Popasului-Petricani section is the first motorway located within a city in Romania as current motorways are built to connect major cities and are all located outside the populated areas.
In September, Romania’s state-owned public roads company (CNAIR) has opened the most beautiful motorway in the country, located in Transylvania near the city of Cluj.
The 9-km Gilau-Nadaselu section of A3 motorway was ready since 2017 but the connection-bridge with the national motorway network was completed in September.
Many infrastructure experts think that Gilau-Nadaselu section is Romania’s most beautiful motorway.
With the new section – the third opened this year, after 2 section of A10 Sebes-Turda motorway -, Romania now has around 780 km of motorway.
