According to data published by the Drivers Licence Center and Registration of Vehicles, Ford Romania closed 2021 as the leader of the commercial vehicles market, while Ford Puma is the bestselling hybrid vehicle model in Romania. 2022 also looks promising for the automobile manufacturer, with several models such as E-Transit, Ranger, Fiesta, and Focus waiting to be launched this year.

In 2021, the market of commercial vehicles (without HCV segment), increased by 14% compared to 2020, a growth made possible by the positive evolution of 2T and pick-up segments. Therefore, Ford keeps its leadership position registering a market share of 19.7% and an increase of volumes of 21% compared to 2020.

The Ford Transit Custom model achieves the best market share in the last 8 years, respectively 30.7%, and an increase of the sold volume of 30% compared to 2020. Ford Ranger keeps its leadership position for the 5th consecutive year, with a market share of 37.4% and an increase in volumes of 18% compared to 2020. From the total of sales of Ford Ranger, the Raptor version represents a share of 32%.

The Transit model is on a rising trend, growing by 30% since 2020, which puts it in 2nd place in the segment, with a share of 18.4%.

“The registered performance in 2021 confirms the reliability of the Ford commercial vehicles, the clients’ trust in our services, on the side of integrated solutions of the product, but also on the aspect of finance and service. The authorized network of dealers Ford – Transit Center is projected to give our clients the entire assistance and specialized guidance they need to take the right decision of buying depending on their specific economic activity and to become an efficient partner, trustworthy and built for results”, declared Cristian Prichea, the General Manager of Ford Romania NSC.

Ford Puma – the bestselling hybrid model in Romania in 2021

Manufactured exclusively in the Craiova factory, starting with the second half of 2019, Ford Puma is already a bestseller in Romania, being the best-sold model with hybrid propulsion from 2021 (2.765 Hybrid units). The share market in the segment registered an important growth, from 6.71% in 2020 to 9.41% in 2021.

At the same time, the model Ford Kuga, produced in Valencia, has registered last year a total sales volume in Romania of 1.064 units, of 397 hybrid units (MHEV, Full-Hybrid, Plug-in-Hybrid). The share market for all the sold versions raised from 4.53% in 2020 to 7.02% in 2021.

Cristian Prichea, General Manager at Ford Romania NSC: “I’m excited that Romanians chose more often this kind of electrified models, as the number of sales from last year for Ford Puma and Kuga PHEV clearly show.”

Ford accelerates its electrification strategy in 2022 and prepares the launch of new models

The new Ford Fiesta will be ready to appear in the Ford showrooms by the middle of February, and Ford Focus a month later. Both models will offer clients multiple versions of electrified propulsion systems.

After debuting last year on the Romanian market, the Mustang Mach-E is now available in GT version, with 487 CP, end-to-end traction, and maximal autonomy that goes to 500 km.

Regarding the launches of commercial vehicles, Ford Romania will bet on the complete electric E-Transit model – which offers the best autonomy in the segment (317 km WLPT), but also on the new Ranger, the most advanced and connected Ranger ever built by Ford.

Ford took the mission to electrify its products and offer clients multiple options and performance standards concerning the CO2 emissions. By the middle of 2026, 100% of all Fordvehicles in Europe will be capable of 0 emissions, being completely electric or Plug-in-Hybrid, planning to have a completely electric range by 2030. In Europe, commercial vehicles will be emissions-free, completely electric, or Plug-in-Hybrid by 2024.
