Art auction house Artmark will open the fall auction season with a collection titled Royal Romania, from Romanian Prince Cuza to King Mihai. Around 200 artworks with an estimated total value of EUR 400,000 will be up on sale. Items in the auction include jewelry belonging, gifted by or dedicated to members of the Romanian royal family, paintings and sculptures, arms and books, rare silverware or porcelain items carrying royal of aristocratic seals, orders and decorations established by the Royal House and many more.
Highlights of the auction are the Carol I Order, the highest decoration granted during the monarchy period in Romania, which is estimated at EUR 35,000 – EUR 50,000; a calendar painted by Queen Elisabeta of Romania, dating back to 1897 and carrying an estimated value of EUR 16,000 – EUR 22,000; a 1930 Frontignan de Segarcea bottle of wine estimated at EUR 9,000 – EUR 12,000.
The Royal Romania auction will take place Tuesday, September 27 at the Bucharest National Opera house. An auction on Romanian Impressionism and Postimpressionism will take place the following day. The items from both auctions can be viewed in an open exhibition in the hall of the Bucharest Opera house between September 25 – 27, from 11.00 to 21.00.
