Tohani Romania announces that this year’s wine will be an exceptional one, both in terms of quality and quantity, the production of high quality grapes being over 20% higher compared to the previous year. Although the spring was rather cold and dry, the weather was favorable for the cultivated varieties, the grapes being more balanced in terms of acidity and more fruity, an assurance that the wine resulting from this year’s production will be an exceptional one.

From harvesting, maceration, fermentation to bottling, Tohani uses the most appropriate techniques and methods to highlight what the 365 ha vineyard offers, to reflect the personality of each variety. This year, although the capricious spring has made Tohani doubt the production of grapes, the approach of the harvest season offers optimistic perspectives on this year production, both in terms of quantity, but especially quality.

Starting with June, the sunny weather, directly influenced the quality of the grapes from Tohani, even if this meant the postponement of the harvest by a few weeks, compared to a normal period from a climatic point of view.

We are in the process of harvesting, and each grape variety receives special attention. Then, at  Tohani, we select the right grapes for each label. We use different vinification methods for different labels, just to highlight the special quality of each variety. However, no matter how much technology has advanced in this field, the ingredient that remains constant is the care for a clean, authentic, high quality product, which we are proud of both in Romania and on the international market, said Virgil Mandru, CEO and owner Tohani Romania.

Feteasca Neagra, the preferred red wine by the Romanians

The quantity of high-quality grapes that will be harvested #AcasaLaFeteascaNeagra is 20% higher than the previous year. Special attention is paid to Feteasca Neagră, the Romanian wine variety with which Tohani wants to place Romania on the international wine map. This year Tohani aims to maintain production at the same level as in 2020, when it exceeded 1 million bottles of Feteasca Neagră.

In fact, according to a recent national survey* conducted online by Tohani, over 50% of Romanians would prefer red wine. When I say red wine, 87% of the respondents think of a Romanian variety, and the variety that immediately comes to mind is Feteasca Neagră (78%).

The interest for Feteasca Neagră is growing, because its notoriaty has increased among the consumer, but also as a result of the increase of the wine quality. We have approximately 100 ha dedicated to this variety, a vineyard in which we have constantly invested in the last 15 years and which offers more and more confirmations every year, both through the awarded labels and through the increase of sales. Consumers appreciate both the special characteristics of the variety and the experience it offers, the experience we try to share with every visitor who crosses our threshold here, #AcasaLaFeteascaNeagră, said Virgil Mandru.

The past years, Tohani România invested over 6 million euros in the Fetească Neagră vineyeard, the dedicated winemaking line and the support of wines produced from this variety – through local marketing and international presence. Multiple international medalist, Apogeum Feteasca Neagra, wine born in the Tohani vineyard and produced by Apogeum winecellar, was placed among 1% of the best ** wines worldwide.
