CIECH Agro Romania, the agro division of CIECH Group, increased its sales in 2022, its first full year of operation on the Romanian market, by 45% compared to the previous year. The company currently has on the Romanian agro market a portfolio of 15 products, which are sold through a network of national and regional distributors.

In its first year of operation, CIECH Agro România has also established a local sales team, currently expanding to cover the entire country.

“Our company has started its activity in Romania, achieving positive business results in a first calendar year during which operational aspects such as the establishment of the local team and the Bucharest office, the implementation of the integrated SAP system and the efficiency of direct deliveries in Poland were gradually completed. Severe drought and increasing pressure from competition were the major challenges faced by CIECH Agro Romania in its first year of activity. For 2023, our key objectives are to expand our sales and marketing team and develop our distribution network at regional and local level. As a result, we plan to continue to grow sales at a fast pace,” said Wojciech Babski, CEO of BU Agro CIECH.

CIECH predicts that the market for crop protection products in Romania will grow around 3-4 percent annually in the coming years. Due to the strong position of agriculture in the Romanian economy, the prospects for further market growth are considered stable, despite the challenges of the European Green Deal.

CIECH AGRO Romania’s strategy is aligned with that of CIECH Group, with the long-term goal of positioning as a leading supplier on the Romanian agro market, with a consistent share in the key product categories the company operates. Currently, CIECH Agro Romania is developing its distribution and aims to expand its market share to 2-3% on the non-selective herbicides segment in the coming years.

The company has a complex portfolio of products on the Romanian market, including protection programs for cereals, for the protection of corn and a novelty for sunflower – HALVETIC. This is a plant protection product against weeds based on the innovative BGT (Better Glyphosate Technology), registered in Poland by CIECH Sarzyna in February 2021. The technology allows the product to maintain its current effectiveness, while reducing the dose of active ingredient per hectare by half compared to the existing market standard. BGT is a breakthrough in the global market for glyphosate formulations and, at the same time, the CIECH Group’s response to the challenges of transforming agriculture into a more sustainable one. The effectiveness of the innovative BGT technology has been confirmed by numerous studies – carried out under both Polish and European conditions.

HALVETIC was the most sold product on the Romanian market in 2022. It has 50% less active ingredient with the same efficacy and efficiency as traditional and well-known glyphosate. Glyphosate is a widely disputed substance worldwide and in Europe, being strictly regulated by the EU, which is moving to ban its use in the future. However, glyphosate is the most effective herbicide, without which farmers cannot develop their activity.

CIECH Agro continues to invest in the development of the local team, the expansion and training of the sales team to provide technical support to Romanian farmers and also the expansion of the current portfolio of plant protection products. At the same time, investments are envisaged for the introduction of new IT solutions for agriculture (virtual consultant, digital agriculture).

Cătălin Gherasim is the new General Director of the CIECH Agro Romania starting January 2023. In this position, he coordinates all the operations of the company in Romania. He is graduate of Al. I. Cuza University, Iasi. Before joining CIECH Agro Romania, Catalin Gherasim was national sales manager at Chemirol Agro Romania.
