Ruben Lațcău, a Local Councilor at Timisoara City Hall and a speaker at BR’s upcoming Rising Cities. Smart Future, Romania’s premier Smart City online conference, was appointed Deputy Mayor of Timisoara, one of the leading cities of Romania in terms of digitalization. The main focus of Ruben Lațcău’s work as Deputy Mayor of Timisoara will be to transform the Western Romanian City into a truly smart urban environment and a research and development hub. His personal ambition is to make Timisoara the tech capital of Romania, Lațcău told BR.
Ruben, a 32-year-old engineer, with an extensive leadership experience in the auto industry, was a Mechanical Project Manager & Team Leader with the automotive company Continental, between 2017 and 2020. Interested in history, geopolitics, humanist sciences, and tech, he gained over the past few years a strong passion for urban development.
“I want to contribute in Timisoara’s transformation into a smart city, one that will digitize its infrastructure and public services.” Says Ruben.
Dominic Fritz, the newly elected Mayor of Timisoara, says about Ruben that he is a very strong manager and strategist, who will help revolutionize the public administration of Timisoara and its metropolitan area.
“For the past year, he was the brain that constructed and coordinated, together with a team of almost 100 experts, my governing programme for Timisoara. You can wake him up at 3 AM and ask him about the next steps for our new urban mobility plan and he will answer instantly.” The Mayor described Ruben.
