Week of love at the National Opera of Bucharest

The National Opera of Bucharest is holding under its emblematic architecture, some of the most impressive spectacles, with various forms of interpretation, such as: “PHOENIX. Între rugă și renaștere”, a foyer spectacle, “Lucia di Lammermoor” and “Elixirul dragostei” by Donizetti, and “Faust” by Gounod, opera spectacles, and “Tango. Radio & Juliet” by Edward Clug, a spectacle of coupé contemporary dance.

 

Here’s the schedule for the following week:

On 8th of March, all the mothers in the world are welcome at 18:30 to “PHOENIX. Între rugă și renaștere”, a homage filled with love and gratitude, represented by the Children’s Chorus of the National Opera of Bucharest and young artists, as a gift for Women’s Day.

Thursday, 10th of March, at 18:30, the ONB is inviting everyone to get in the mood for dance, through “Tango. Radio & Juliet”, a spectacle that unites two choreographies created by Edward Clug, a Romanian artist settled in Slovenia, who combines diverse elements of art into a complex and exceptional piece. Even though the month of love just ended, this spectacle reunites the well-known characters, Romeo and Juliet, who evoke the strongest and the most contradictory states: passion, love, delusion, loneliness.

Friday, 11th of March, at 18:30, “Lucia di Lammermoor” by Donizetti, directed by Andrei Serban, you will be a part of Lucia’s thrilling love story, who is obligated to marry by her brother Lord Enrico Ashton, in order to save the family’s honor.

Saturday, 12th of March, at 18:30, the ONB is inviting you to “Elixirul dragostei”, directed by Marco Gandini, one of the most appreciated masterpieces of Donizetti, with the most representations on the lyrical theatres all over the world.

Sunday, 13th of March, not Goethe’s Faust, but Gounod’s one, directed by Alexandru Tocilescu will start at 18:00. With this lyric drama, Gounod launched a new genre, grand-opéra of romantic’s opera, in which the characters are described through complex musical constructions sustained by orchestral harmonics.
