Vaclav Havel’s Leaving to be shown in Bucharest on his 75th birthday

Leaving, a recent film directed by Czech writer and politician Vaclav Havel, will be shown in Bucharest on October 5th during a series of events marking his 75th birthday. The day’s program includes representations of Citizen Havel, a photography exhibition by Oldrich Skacha, and a conference about Vaclav Havel.

“My health does not allow me to travel, so allow me to say hello from a distance and to thank you for remembering that it is my birthday,” Havel said in a message for Bucharest audiences.

The program for October 5th

12.00-14.00 A seminar titled Vaclav Havel: writer and playwright. At the Bucharest’s Central University Library Carol I. The event will see the launch of a book compiling Havel’s theater plays.

16.00 A representation of Citizen Havel at the New Cinema of the Romanian Director. Directed by Pavel Koutecky and Miroslav Janek, the 2008 120 minute film presents 15 years from Havel’s life.

18.00 A representation of Leaving (2011), directed by Vaclav Havel. At the New Cinema of the Romanian Director.

20.30 The opening of the Oldrich Skacha’s photo exhibition titled Vaclav Havel: dissident/ president/ citizen.
