UPDATE: Still life and Violin, by Rodica Maniu Mutzner, sold for EUR 11,500

An estimate of 200 works of art made by Romanian auctions will go under the hammer on January 27 at Marriott Grand Hotel, through two events, The Black & White Auction and Romanian Ladies in Fine Arts’ Auction, taking place simultaneously. The 200 paintings and graphic works reach a total value of EUR 400,000, with many of the lots reaching values between EUR 100 and 500.

The Black and White Auction is dedicated to the graphic art segment of the market, which finds itself in an incipient stage of development at the moment, in Romania, but is expected to grow in the following years. A collection containing 20 works of consecrated local graphic artists reaches a values of EUR 5,000. The auction also includes “grisaille” (monochrome/near-monochrome) works, thus opening the local graphic heritage market, with works belonging to consecrated artists, as Nicolae Tonita, Gheorghe Petrascu, Iosif Iser, Camil Ressu, Theodor Pallady, etc.

Romanian Ladies in Fine Arts’ Auction is organized in partnership with the Bucharest History and Art Museum, as the first such event entirely dedicated to women in the arts. Works belonging to Rodica Maniu Mutzner, Micaela Eleutheriade, Lucia Demetriade Balacescu, Cecilia Cutescu-Storck will take center stage with this occasion.

Stars of the auctions will be Rodica Maniu Mutzner’s Plaja (in picture, estimated to be worth between EUR 40,000-50,000) and Confidente (EUR 17,500-25,000), as well as a series of graphic art belonging to Nicolae Tonitza.

The works of art will be exhibited, prior to the auction, between January 21-27, in the 11.00-21.00 interval, at Marriott Grand Hotel.

UPDATE: The stars of the The Black & White Auction were Iosif Iser’s In Spatele Scenei (Behind the Scenes), sold for EUR 10,000 and Nicolae Tonitza’s Copilul Sfant (The Holy Child), sold for EUR 7,000, over the superior limit of the initial estimation of EUR 5,000. The total sum gathered by the auction was of EUR 116,200, with a 94.3 adjudication rate.

Bestseller of the Romanian Ladies in Fine Arts’ Auction and of the evening was Still life and violin, by Rodica Maniu Mutzner, sold for EUR 11,500. Second runner-up was Cecilia Cutescu-Storck’s Tahitian, sold for EUR 6,500. The total sum gathered by the auction was of EUR 99,000, with a 68.6 adjudication rate.
