Puiu's project “Aurora” is a crime/love story about a man in his forties who has reached an identity crisis. One of the highest scored synopses in the contest it is the recipient of funding of RON 1.58 million and has an estimated budget of EUR 1.4 million. At the beginning of the year, it was selected at the Berlin Film Festival project contest but was not granted financing. Although the highest in value, the project came second to that of Corneliu Porumboiu, “Intermediary” was granted RON 1.48 million. Featuring actor Dan Bucur, it tells the story of a man who does not believe in the law he is compelled to enforce.
Puiu had previously said he would not ask the CNC for financing as two of his projects, including the acclaimed “The Death of Mr. Lazarescu”, had been rejected. Other directors given financing were Dan Chisu, Alexandru Solomon and Marian Crisan.
