The local tennis tournament on clay surface Open Romania will change its name to BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy, in celebration of the Romanian legend tennis players Ilie Nastase and Ion Tiriac.

Between September 17-25, BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy will open its gates at the BNR Arenas in Bucharest. Players in the top 100 ATP hierarchy will be competing for the “Tiriac-Nastase” trophy: 250 ATP points and prizes totaling EUR 371,200. Doubles finalist team at Wimbeldon, Horia Tecau and Robert Lindstedt will also be on the tennis courts.

Tennis champions who made history in the past are going to entertain the public in an exhibition match with headlining stars Yannick Noah, Younes El Aynaoi, Ilie Nastase and Mansour Bahrami promising spectators an entertaining Tuesday night. On Friday, a series of events will surprise tennis fans: 1000 women will be granted a free entrance to the BNR Arena in an event dubbed “Women’s day”. Moreover, artists will take the courts for the first edition of “Stars Open 2011.” Romanian entertainers Horatiu Malaiele and Cornel Ilie together with other artists will be equipped and ready to gain points in the Stars Open games. The night will end with an exhibition game bringing together professional tennis players Andrei Pavel and Marius Copil against Cornel Ilie and Augustin Viziru.

On Saturday, after the doubles final, Andrei Pavel, Victor Hanescu, Horia Tecau and Robert Lindstedt will be playing in a charitable exhibition game.
On Sunday, the winners will be decided in finals for establishing both the tournament and the Stars Open winner.

All ticket proceeds are going to be redirected towards the Heart of Children Association, a charity partner of the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy Tournament that helps children with heart conditions. In 2009, the Association successfully campaigned for the establishment of a pediatric cardiac surgery centre at the Marie Curie Children’s Hospital in Bucharest.  BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy Tournament will also be the benefactor of a USD 10.000 grant offered by ATP, in the ATP ACES for Charity program.
