Save the Children Romania pleads against discrimination in schools

Statistics of the Romanian Office of Immigrations from 1991 until 2007, show that approximately 16,000 foreigners asked for asylum in Romania out of which 2,723 received a form of protection. At the end of last June, 810 foreigners appeared in records as beneficiaries of protection offered by the Romanian state. Among them, 261 were children.
Beginning with 1998, Save the Children has been implementing projects meant to help refugee children adjust in the Romanian society through educative activities and relaxation ones which may help them assert their identity and enlarge their horizon. About 950 refugee children and 400 parents from countries such as Irak, Somalia, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, the former Yugoslavia, Russia, Albania etc. were helped by the organization as part of the program “The Integration of Refugee Children and Separate Children in the Romanian society.”
