Salman Rushie attends Gaudeamus fair

He attended the Gaudeamus book fair where over 2,000 people queued to get his autograph. Rushdie is a well-known writer of books such as Midnight’s Children and The Satanic Verses. The latter was considered a blasphemy against Islam and Rushdie had to go into hiding after receiving death threats. A fatwa (ruling) was issued against him by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the Supreme Leader of Iran.
