Romania celebrates National Anthem Day

On Thursday, July 29, Romania celebrates National Anthem Day with a military ceremony in Bucharest and the national anthem recital. Throughout the ceremonies, traffic restrictions will take place in downtown Bucharest.

Traffic in Bucharest will be closed on the first lane of circulation from Calea Victoriei, between Matei Milo and Regina Maria Boulevard and on Constantin Mille Street, between Calea Victoriei and Ion Brezoianu Street. For the anthem recital, road traffic will be ceased between 10.20 and 11.00, for about ten minutes, on Calea Victoriei, between Ion Campineanu and Regina Elisabeta Boulevard and on Regina Elisabeta Boulevard, between Academiei Street and Ion Brezoianu Street.

In Sibiu, a bread manufacturer will distribute free bread to 8,000 people and a personalized card which features the text of the national anthem.

Desteapta-te Romane (Awaken thee, Romanian) has been Romania’s national anthem since the fall of communism, in 1990. The text was composed by Romantic poet and revolutionary Andrei Muresanu during the 1848 revolution.
