Continuing the trend set in 2010 on the rock music scene, August will witness two more major rock and heavy metal festivals: ArtMania in Sibiu and Peninsula in Targu Mures.

Already on its fifth run, ArtMania Festival will take place between August 13 and 15, in Piata Mare, downtown Sibiu. Performers will include big names of rock music, such as Serj Tankian, System of a Down lead singer, now promoting his solo album Elect the Dead, along with British band The Sisters of Mercy, who have been going since the 1980s. They will be joined by metal singers Kamelot, Dark Tranquility, Sirenia and Swallow the Sun.

Artmania ticket and subscription holders can also take advantage of several cultural offers in Sibiu, allowing them to visit museums such as the Brukenthal for a specially reduced rate. The Romanian Railway Company has also come up with some special offers for those who want to buy tickets to Sibiu in advance or who are traveling in a group to the festivals, also allowing festival-goers to take their bicycles in a special wagon.

Peninsula Festival, which is on its eighth run, is being held between August 26 and 29 in Targu-Mures. This year’s headliner is American band Korn, while other acclaimed rock and alternative names, such as Tricky, The Rasmus, Europe, Ska-P, Gorillaz Sound System and Babylon Circus, are also confirmed. Romanian bands like Vama, Phoenix, Partizan and Zdob si Zdub will also take to the stage. The event will showcase other various social, cultural and environmental events.

More information about the two festivals is available on their websites: www.artmaniafestival.ro, www.peninsula.ro.
