Starting on September 1st, Residența9 brings a program designed as a complement to the events proposed by the George Enescu Festival. These events kick off with the opening of the Music Gallery, an exhibition born from the desire to present music in an unconventional way to the general public.

“Most people interact with music only through concerts, where they are mere witnesses to the artistic act. But the experience can be much more complex than that. Taking inspiration from how an art gallery works, we created an exhibition about music, focusing on sensory experience, interaction with equipment, and the idea of discovering the inspiration behind musical creations. At the Music Gallery, you can listen to the warm sound of vinyl records. We use high-quality equipment for faithful sound reproduction and present music from a different perspective. Despite appearances, it’s not pretentious at all, and the experience is designed especially for enthusiasts. We started with jazz, but, especially for the George Enescu Festival, we created two sections dedicated to classical music, incorporating visual art elements, stories about classical music works, and a small tribute corner to Enescu, the greatest musician in our country. We thank BRD for the invitation and sincerely hope you enjoy the experience!” says Alin Vaida, Director of Jazz in the Park & Executive Director of Fapte. The exhibition will be open throughout September, and admission is free.

Film Screenings and Concerts

“For a month, Residența9 will be filled with sounds. We are happy and honored to collaborate with the Jazz in the Park team, the initiators of the Music Gallery. The exhibition wonderfully complements one of our favorite programs, Post Muzica, offering the audience the opportunity for exceptional technical audio experiences. So, we look forward to seeing you at Residența9, the cultural hotspot of BRD, in September, to feel, listen, and contemplate the wonderful universe of music,” stated Suzana Dan, Residența9 Manager.

Moreover, children can enjoy a specially designed program for them: JazzUp Young music education workshops at the beginning of September, piano lessons with Leyah in the middle of the month, and percussion courses as part of the Music Gallery toward the end of the month. Participation in these cultural and educational activities is free.

For adults, we have prepared film screenings and concerts at Residența9. On September 2nd, we invite you to the screening of the documentary “War Wounds Music” featuring Sabin Penea and Marius Manole. This will be followed by a live recital with Sabin Penea on the violin created by Nicolò Galiano over 250 years ago. Just eight days later, the JazzUp concert, a recital featuring Eliza Puchianu on the piano and Sabin Penea on the violin, will bring jazz and classical music rhythms closer to us. On the evening of September 23rd, we will be accompanied by Alexandru Stoica, who will play the oud, a rarely seen instrument on Romanian stages, and Sabin Penea on the violin in an exceptional concert – ClassicUp: Deep roots.

The classical program at Residența9 continues in September with CINEVARA every Thursday and will also include an installation. An insert in the Music Gallery and an invitation to tactile interaction inspired by musical sounds will welcome visitors right at the entrance to the Residența9 garden through a special installation created by artist Raluca Arnăutu, who describes her work as follows: “The scientific understanding of sound starts from different types of vibrations,” declared German researcher and musician Ernst Chladni in 1787. Building on this theory, I aimed to weave a series of images, symbolically related to musical effects, to lead the audience to his experiment, which turned vibrations into patterns on metal plates sprinkled with sand.”
