Bucharest Early Music Festival, a too short encounter with Bachaa‚¬a„¢s creations

On Sunday, October 31, “At the Court of the Noble Hapsichord” was the concert with which Il Gardellino Ensemble, Ketil Haugsand, Jan de Winne, Mayumi Hirasaki and Raluca Enea beguiled the audience, as part of the Bucharest Early Music Festival (more here and here). Long rounds of applauds followed throughout the short breaks that the musicians took and in the end it all seemed like time had passed all too quickly and the refined baroque music concert was perhaps a questionable end-of-October evening’s dream. Quick changes of setting, the amazing acoustics and breathtaking design of the Athenaeum, the timeworn, yet very well preserved and highly performing instruments, the artists’ dedication and professionalism were all part of the festival’s recipe. Thus, an even higher standard was set for next year’s sixth edition of the festival, leaving all those that filled the Athenaeum’s generous hall between October 30 and November 1 already in anticipation.
