American news weekly Time magazine has recently included Romanian poet, novelist and essayist Mircea Cartarescu in its “Pack Your (Book) Bag”, recommendations for summer reads from renowned authors.
Cartarescu recommends J. D. Salinger’s books in this purpose: “I always reread J.D. Salinger’s books. Right now it’s Franny and Zooey. I think it’s at least the 10th time that I’ve read it. I know it almost by heart, actually. It’s not a book of literature for me; it’s a sort of gospel.” The section then informs readers that Cartarescu’s trilogy, Blinding (Orbitor), will be released in English next year. Among the other 23 authors that the Time staff appreciates, there are Salman Rushdie and Vladimir Sorokin.
Cartarescu has received numerous literary prizes for his creations and was awarded last year with the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, prestigious decoration offered by the French state.
