Young people are the most proficient and keen English speakers, with over 30 percent of Romanians aged between 18 and 24 knowing English well. This is in stark contrast to the older generation:only 2.4 percent of the over-50s have a good grasp of the English language.
The study also found that the majority (over 40 percent) of Romanians learn English to work abroad. Thirty percent of them learn the language to work inside Romania while 19 percent learn it in order to use it during their holidays abroad.
The study was conducted between January 29 and February 7 on 912 people.
