Official visit to Spain comes with ministerial faux pas

This is not the first time Cioroianu has been accused of making a diplomatic faux pas. Just a few weeks ago, he surprised the public when wondering whether “a section of the Egyptian desert could be bought where all those who embarrass us should be sent.” The remark, made at a time when relations between Romania and Italy were tense due to the alleged murder of an Italian woman by a Romanian man of Roma origins, was considered to have racist content by some NGOs which asked for the minister's resignation.
