Nicolae Tonitza painting sets new bidding record

A painting by Romanian artist Nicolae Tonitza called In Iatac (In the Bedroom) has set a new record during the 2011 Winter Bidding organized by Artmark at the Romanian Atheneaeum.

The painting sold for EUR 290,000.

The previous record was set by a painting by NIcolae Grigorescu called Pastorita (The Shepherd Lady), which sold for EUR 175,000 a year ago.

The 2011 Winter Bidding saw 141 works sold out of 142 which went under the hammer, the final sum being auctioned totaling EUR 1.6 million.
