The project was started in June with the help of Colgate-Palmolive, which donated EUR 100,000, and was backed by companies such as Petrom, Romstal, Philips, LG and Arctic. It aims to benefit 50,000 children across Romania who pass through the hospital's doors.
“The response rate of this campaign was a good one,” said Wajiha Haris, president of Scheherazade Foundation. “To my surprise, so far, we have had a good response from all the companies, which shows the impact of the project on Romanian society.”
Marie Curie Charity Gala is the first fund-raising event of the campaign, to take place on November 22 at the Palace of Parliament, with the support of the Italian Formula 3 team, Scuderia Playteam and Healthy Children – the Children are Counting on us Foundation. Participants can bid for six items donated by the Scuderia team, which won the FIA GT world championship in Bucharest last May: helmets, overalls, gloves and parts of a Maserati MC12.
The hospital, currently named Marie Sklodowska Curie, was offered to the Romanian people as a special gift from the Polish government in 1977. It was opened in 1984 as one of the biggest hospitals for children in Romania.
