GayFest 2010 kicks off

Newsroom 17/05/2010 | 15:01

The seventh GayFest, which fights for the rights of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community, will take place between May 17 and 22. May 17 is IDAHO – the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia – which is celebrated all over the world.

This year, GayFest will feature a photo exhibition about the history of LGBT people from the US, UK and Germany, old films about the gay community, workshops touching on theater, photography and drawing, a dance course, a piano concert, parties and theater and, last but not least, the Gay Pride march. The march, which starts at 5 pm on 22 May, departs from Unirii Boulevard and will end close to Izvor Park.

This year’s guests at Gay Pride include Michael Cashman of Great Britain, a member of the Executive Committee of the Labor Party; Robin Barnett, ambassador of Great Britain in Bucharest; Csaba Asztalos, member of the National Council for the Prevention of Discrimination; and Jonathan Rosenzweig, second secretary in the Israeli embassy in Bucharest.

The event is organized by the Accept Association, an NGO which campaigns for the rights of LGBT people.
