Five paintings by Romanian artist Nicolae Grigorescu will be on sale at the Artmark art auction set to take place on October 20. The high number of paintings by the artist in one sale is a first for the Romanian market. The starting price for the prices is approximately 10 percent of the sale price of similar works at recent art auctions.
The paintings present in Thursday’s auction include: Targ la Rucar (Rucar Fair) with an estimated price of EUR 20,000 – 40,000 and Grota Pescarilor (Fishermen’s Cave) with an estimated price of EUR 25,000 – 45,000. Both of the paintings come from the collection of dr. Alexandru Obregia, the psychiatrist and professor who founded the first Romanian neuropsychiatry hospital. He was also the personal physician of painter Nicolae Grigoresc during the latter’s final years. Another painting to be auctioned is Natura statica cu mere rosii (Still life with red apples) with an estimated price of EUR 25,000 – 45,000. The painting belonged to Maria Danciu, the painter’s wife. The other two paintings are Bordei in padurea de pe Plaiu (Hut in the woods off Plaiu) with an estimated price of EUR 35,000 – 65,000 and Portretul uni evreu galitian (Portrait of a Galician Jew) with an estimated price of EUR 40,000 – EUR 80,000.
An exhibition of works up for sale in this auction is already open between 11.00 – 21.00 at the Radisson Blu until the evening of the event.
