This is a special weekend for Bucharest, which is celebrating two important historical events this weekend: the city’s 559th anniversary and the Romanian Centennial. These will be marked through a cultural marathon taking place between September 21 and 23 (access is free for everyone).

iMapp Bucharest 2018 – September 22

iMapp is one of the biggest 3D video-mapping shows in the world, bringing design, contemporary art and live performance to the 23,000-sqm façade of the Parliament Palace. The event is at its fifth edition and it will include shows designed by 10 finalist teams from all over the world, whose work will be evaluated by a jury that includes representatives of international visual arts, communication, mass-media or film.

Hurts @ Bucharest Days 2018 – September 22

Before the 3D video-mapping contest, famous local and international artists will go up on the stage in the Constitution Square, headlined by the British band Hurts, a synth-pop duo founded in Manchester in 2009. Beloved Romanian band The Mono Jacks will open for Hurts.

Rod Stewart @ Bucharest Days 2018 – September 23

The last day of the cultural celebration will feature a live concert by British rockstar Rod Stewart.

Other cool events taking place this weekend:

Outernational Days Festival – September 19-23 @ various locations

The third edition of the Outernational Days Festival, which will include bands and artists from Egypt, Iran, Zimbabwe, Russia, Turkey, Lebanon, Germany, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden and Romania, will take place in the following locations this weekend: Control Club, MNAC Bucharest, the Anglican Church and Hermitage, urban spiritual hub.

This year’s Outernational Days continues to celebrate diversity and explore the nuances of music. In the context of mass migration and geo-politican changes, culture and music are influenced by these constant transformations. From electronic hybrids from the Middle East to the sacred music in Zimbabwe, the festival investigates music not just through live performances and DJ sets, but also through workshops, lectures and film screenings.

Bounty Fair #37 – Creative Fall Shopping – September 22-23 @ Casa Universitarilor, 46 Dionisie Lupu

Bounty Fair is back this weekend with new forces, in a garden showing the first signs of fall through its magic colours. The fair will bring together about 70 Romanian artists and their handmade designs. Like at any Bounty Fair, you’ll also be able to enjoy coffee, hot chocolate, delicious gourmet snacks and fun activities for children.
