On Friday September 15: The White Night of Romanian Cinema with over 30 movies

The Romanian cinema is once again in the spotlight with the occasion of the White Night of Romanian Cinema event, which will take place this year on September 15th in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, and Timișoara. On its 14th edition, the Romanian film marathon will bring a record number of premiere films to the cinema halls, along with the most beloved Romanian productions of the year, accompanied by actors, directors, and screenwriters. The program includes dozens of simultaneous screenings in 15 cinemas and alternative venues across the three cities.

 

The films within the White Night of Romanian Cinema can be seen in Bucharest at Cinema Elvire Popesco (indoors and outdoors), Sala Luceafărul, Cinema Muzeul Țăranului, Cinemateca Union, Cinemateca Eforie, Hollywood Multiplex, Grădina cu Filme CREART, Grădina Muzeului Național al Literaturii Române, Unteatru, Sala Cinema – UNATC, and J’ai Bistrot.

Audiences will have the opportunity to watch in advance films that have received awards at major national and international film festivals, such as the feature film inspired by real events during the 1989 Revolution, “Libertate,” directed by Tudor Giurgiu, starring Iulian Postelnicu, Cătălin Herlo, Alex Calangiu, Dan Bordeianu, and Andi Vasluianu. The film is the winner of the Confederation of Art Cinemas (CICAE) Award at the Sarajevo Film Festival and the Audience Award at TIFF 2023. The film’s team will be present at the event and will answer questions from the audience at the end of the screening.

Among the premieres are “Tigru,” the directorial debut of Andrei Tănase, starring Paul Ipate, Alex Velea, Cătălina Moga, and Elvira Deatcu, and the drama “Mammalia,” directed by Sebastian Mihăilescu, featuring István Téglás, Mălina Manovici, and Denisa Nicolae in the lead roles. Sebastian Mihăilescu’s debut in feature fiction premiered globally in February at the Berlin International Film Festival.

 

The program of this edition also includes the advance screening of the documentary film “De ce mă cheamă Nora când cerul meu e senin,” directed by Carla Teaha, “Cazul inginerului Ursu” (directed by Liviu Tofan, Șerban Georgescu), “Între Revoluții” directed by Vlad Petri, the romantic comedy “Dragoste pe muchie de cuțit” (directed by Alin Panc), starring Carmen Tănase, Răzvan Bănică, and Ada Galeș.

Meet and greet the film-makers at The White Night of Romanian Cinema

At Sala Luceafărul (formerly Cinema PRO), the audience has the opportunity to meet the team behind one of the most anticipated Romanian films of the year, “Libertate,” which will be present at 8:00 PM to watch the production inspired by the events that took place in Sibiu in December 1989 alongside the spectators. In the hall, there will be director Tudor Giurgiu, actors Ștefan Iancu, Cristi Popa, Cristina Casian, Andreea Grămoșteanu, and Florentina Țilea.

The film “Mammalia” (directed by Sebastian Mihăilescu) can be watched in advance at Cinema Elvire Popesco in the presence of actor István Téglás and producer Diana Păroiu. Also, in advance, the documentary film “De ce mă cheamă Nora când cerul meu e senin” will be screened in the presence of director Carla Teaha and editor Roxana Szel, as well as the film “Tigru,” directed by Andrei Tănase, in the presence of actor Paul Ipate and producer Irena Isbasescu.

Dorian Boguță, the lead actor in the comedy “Încă două Lozuri,” will answer questions from the audience during the screening at Hollywood Multiplex – București Mall. Director Paul Negoescu will also be present at the screening. The film “Dragoste pe muchie de cuțit” (directed by Germain Kanda) will be screened in advance in the presence of actor Alin Panc.

At the Cinema Muzeul Țăranului Român, the audience will meet Bogdan Mirică, the director of the film “Boss,” starting at 10:00 PM, and at Cinemateca Union, the advance screening of the film “Cazul inginerului Ursu” (directed by Liviu Tofan, Șerban Georgescu) will take place at 6:00 PM in the presence of Liviu Tofan.

Among the special moments prepared by the organizers that will mark this year’s edition of the White Night of Romanian Cinema is a special screening at Cinemateca Eforie of the film “Balanța” on the occasion of director Lucian Pintilie’s 90th birthday. In the Cinemateca’s lobby, spectators will be greeted by an exhibition of the director’s photos. Also, at Cinemateca Eforie, starting at 8:30 PM, a series of short films directed by the great filmmaker Ion Popescu Gopo will be screened, reimagined musically live by Dan Alexandru and Alexandru Olteanu.
