Children with heart problems get a better chance for a new life

Newsroom 07/07/2008 | 16:01

In Romania there are approximately 1,000 children born with heart malformations and 900 of them need surgical interventions in their first year of life. Most children suffering from these conditions are operated at Targu-Mures, but unfortunately, only 270 operations can be performed every year at the Institute in Targu-Mures since there is just one operation department and only one specialized team. The campaign aims to lead to an earlier diagnosis of these cases and an increase in the number of children who are operated on at the optimum time. This can be achieved by informing parents, family doctors and specialists as well as building a new operation department in Targu-Mures. Procter & Gamble has donated USD 300,000 to the Institute of Cardio-Vascular Diseases and Transplant in Targu-Mures so that steps should be taken in achieving these goals.
