So far the options that have been put forward by City Hall are the lion, the ladybird, the butterfly and the white dove.
The line-up of mascots should be ready by February after which Bucharest inhabitants will have two months to vote for their favourite. After the “identity” of the mascot is established, it could be sold in the form of badges, trinkets and other objects to promote the city.
The symbol that should best describe Bucharest's image is an initiative from the recently founded Direction for Promoting Tourism and it is still not known how many symbols will be proposed.
This project is part of a wider program for developing tourism in Bucharest. Apart from being in charge of finding the appropriate mascot for Bucharest, the Direction for Tourism Development will have the task of establishing a tourism route and the most important sites for visitors to see, to arrange special coaches for tourists and create several centres of tourist information.
