Avatar reaches EUR 1.5 mln in sales at the local box-office

Avatar, the latest production of Oscar winner director James Cameron engrossed approximately EUR 1.5 million since December 17 until January 3, according to Odeon Cineplex, the distributor of the production, quoted by Ziarul Financiar. The film, which sold locally 308,000 tickets, was one of the most expected of the year, being the first Hollywood production that could be viewed in IMAX technology in Romania. It had its avant- premiere on December 17 at Cinema City Cotroceni, in the Samsung IMAX movie theater.

The record at the local box- office was set by Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs that engrossed since its launch in Romania, in July 2009, until December 25, over EUR 1.62 million. However, Odeon Cineplex representatives expect that Avatar will surpass Ice Age 3 at the box office by the end of this week.
