The Main Mission of Women In Tech

Women in Tech is a global organization of 200,000 members stationed across six continents with their main office stationed in Paris, France. Their main mission is to guide women in their journey toward pursuing a fulfilling career in technology.

Their overall goal is to influence five million women in the tech industry by 2030 using their basic sustainable development goals.

  • Promoting gender equality for every woman they mentor.
  • Delivering a high-quality education in the tech industry.
  • Lowering opportunities for inequality in the workplace.
  • Increasing work opportunities for females in tech.
  • Enhancing tech industry innovation to increase women’s success in their careers.

Head Members of the Romania Chapter

The head members of the Romanian chapter of Women in Tech have a background in IT with impeccable leadership skills that guide women in their country to great strides in their careers.

Marion Hegarty is the Chapter Ambassador. She is also the founder of the Romania chapter to bring tech innovation and knowledge to motivated women in the Romanian community.

Iulia Decu is the Educational Programs Manager. She assists in spreading tech knowledge to female mentees within the organization finding their way into the tech industry in Romania.

Cristina Preda is the Digital and Community Manager. She was one of the speakers at the kick-off event for the Romania chapter back in January of this year. Her background in IT recruitment lends to her position well as the Digital Community Manager.

Elena Simion is the Events and Community Manager. She coordinates the upcoming events that the chapter will attend or host in the future.

Georgiana Dobre is the Sponsorship Manager, otherwise known as the head of Strategic Partnerships. Her background in IT and economics lends well to her current position with the Romanian chapter of Women in Tech.

The Current Gender Gap in Romania’s Tech Industry

A study conducted in 2022 found that only 26% of the employees in Romania’s tech industry are women which is about 53,000. This means that a staggering 74% of male employees dominate the industry currently.

Women in Tech is looking to balance those figures and get more women involved in the country’s tech industry. As IT companies are on the rise with almost 22,000, showing a 60% from when the companies were last counted, this means that more jobs will be available for women interested in entering the tech industry.

Even despite this gender gap, Romania is one of the top countries where more women are in tech than in other regions. At least this is a win for Romania as they continue to encourage more women to enter IT by lessening the barriers to entry with mentoring from the Women in Tech organization.

Looking Ahead

Do you think the Women in Tech Romania chapter will get enough women in the tech industry over the next five years to close more of the gender gap? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
