Non-government loans granted by credit institutions go up 3 pct y-o-y

In December 2015, non-government loans granted by credit institutions added 3.0 percent (4.0 percent in real terms) year on year, on the back of the 19.7 percent increase in RON-denominated loans (20.9 percent in real terms) and the 9.9 percent decline in foreign currency-denominated loans expressed in RON (when expressed in EUR, forex loans dropped 10.8 percent), according to new data published by the Romanian National Bank (BNR).

Compared to November 2015, non-government loans decreased by 0.4 percent (-0.6 percent in real terms) in December 2015, to reach RON 217.532,3 million, and RON-denominated loans went down by 0.7 percent (-0.9 percent in real terms), whereas forex loans declined 0.1 percent when expressed in RON and 1.9 percent when in EUR, says the same BNR report.

Of the RON-denominated non-government loans, a total of RON 57,656.5 million went to corporate loans (non-financial corporations and non-monetary financial institutions) while RON 52,629.5 went to household loans. For the forex-denominated non-government loans, RON 55,330.7 million went to household loans and RON 51,915.7 million to corporate loans (bar loans to financial corporations and monetary financial institutions).

In December 2015, government credit stood 3.7 percent higher in December 2015 compared to November 2015, to reach RON 89,617.3, while compared to December 2014, it increased by 4.8 percent (5.7 percent in real terms).

As for deposits, those of non-government resident customers went up 6.8 percent month on month to RON 253,463.9 million in December 2015, also according to the BNR data. Of these, RON-denominated household deposits added 2.7 percent to reach RON 91,674.8 million in December 2015 and RON-denominated corporate deposits (non-financial corporations and non-monetary financial institutions) went up to RON 79,650.9 million, an increase of 18 percent.

Forex-denominated deposits of resident households and corporations (non-financial corporations and non-monetary financial institutions) saw an upwards change of 2.0 percent to RON 82,138.2 when expressed in RON and of 0.2 percent to EUR 18,154.1 when in EUR.
