It stars French actress Melanie Laurent, who came to world renown as a result of her performance in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. Laurent plays the role of Anne-Marie Jacquet, a successful international soloist who gets a contract to sing with the grand orchestra of the Balsoi Theater. The Concert was mostly shot in Romania, at Castel Films studio, Ana Aslan Institute and at Arenele Romane. The rest of the scenes were filmed in Moscow and Paris. Radu Mihaileanu is one of the most successful Romanian directors. In 1980 he moved from Romania to Israel and from there to France, where he launched his career. His first notable success was Train de Vie, on which the direction assistant was Cristian Mungiu, another famous local director who later won the Palmes d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. However, Mihaileanu's most successful film was Va, Vis et Deviens, which earned him a Cesar prize for the best original script in 2005.
