Annual inflation decreases, after three month of constant increases

Annual inflation fell first the first time after three consecutive months when the economic indicator registered constant increases. The annual inflation reached a 4.49 percent level , compared with 5.2 percent in January this year. According to the National Statistics Institute, the inflation fell as a result of lower hike in product prices in February, compared with previous months.

Although the overall impression is that prices dropped last month, on certain segment the prices actually have increased. The most significant price increases in January compared with December last year are recorded for the thermo energy with 1.83 percent, vegetables with 1.69 percent and books and newspapers with 1.35 percent. Also, the prices for urban transportation have increased by 1.39 percent.

According to the Romanian Central Bank, the inflation target for this year is estimated that will fluctuate between 2.5 and 4.5 percent.
