Bucharest to reverberate to the sound of music this summer

There are many reasons to remain in Bucharest this summer, at least until the end of July. Besides the financial crisis and subsequent lack of many destinations to go to on a limited budget, the summer calendar is booming with concerts. Business Review has selected the cream of the crop for its concert calendar.

The legend that is Bob Dylan (in pic) will perform for the first time in Romania on June 2 at the Zone Arena. The show is part of the artist’s Never Ending Tour. Dylan, dubbed by Rolling Stone magazine the most important solo artist of all time, is famous for hits such as Subterranean Homesick Blues, Like a Rolling Stone, and Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door. Tickets for the concert can be bought online from the site www.myticket.ro or in Diverta stores priced at RON 350, RON 250 and RON 130.

French electro music pioneer and composer Jean Michel Jarre (in pic) will return to Romania for an “all-in-one-show.” The gig will have analog synthesizers and the latest digital technology. It will take place on June 3 at the Polivalenta Hall. Tickets are on sale in the Eventim network. Jarre was previously in Bucharest in 2008 for a show whose tickets sold out a month in advance.

Guitarist Eric Clapton (in pic), whose hits include Tears in Heaven, Wonderful Tonight, Layla and Old Love, will play Bucharest on June 11 at Arcul de Triumf stadium. Clapton will do a blues-rock show with a long-time collaborator of his, Stevie Winwood. More tickets have been released to cater for the high demand and are still on sale in Germanos, Vodafone, Carturesti and Humanitas stores or online on the site eventim.ro.

The concert of Sir Elton John & His Band will take place on June 12. The venue of the concert is Constitutiei Square. The concert of the British artist is part of his World Tour 2010. Sir Elton John (in pic), whose real name is Reginald Kenneth Dwight, has enjoyed more than 50 Top 40 hits, including seven consecutive US No. 1 albums and nine No. 1 hits. Tickets (seats only) can be bought through the site eventim.ro or from Elton John’s official website.

US rockers Aerosmith (in pic) will ‘walk this way’, to Bucharest, to play a concert at Romexpo on June 18. The gig will be part of the band’s European tour, Cocked, Locked, Ready to Rock! They are known for trademark songs such as Amazing, Crazy, Crying, Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing, Jaded and Walk This Way. Tickets are on sale at RON 140 (B sector), RON 190 (A sector), RON 330 (Golden Ring) and RON 590 (seats). They can be bought from the Eventim network, Germanos and Vodafone stores, Carturesti and Humanitas bookstores.

Between June 25 and 27, prepare to rock when Sonisphere Festival comes to town, or more precisely to Romexpo. The list of headliners includes Manowar, Volbeat (June 25), Metallica (in pic), Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Heaven and

Hell (June 26) and Rammstein, Alice in Chains, Stone Sour, Mastodon (June 28). Tickets at prices of RON 120, RON 220 and RON 350 (VIP tickets) for this event, which promises to be very loud, can be acquired at Vodafone, Germanos, Humanitas and Carturesti.

Trip-hop band Massive Attack (in pic) will return to Bucharest on June 27. The show will take place at Zone Arena. Massive Attack is a duo made up of Robert “3D” Del Naja and Grant “Daddy G” Marshall, but they work with various other artists. Tickets for the concert are available at Eventim.ro, in the networks of stores of Germanos, Vodafone, Carturesti, Humanitas and at the Palace Hall box office at RON 145 (sector A), RON 95 (sector B) and RON 175 (seated).

Ciuc Summer Fest, a music festival of smaller dimensions, will take place between July 16 and 18 at the Iolanda Balas Soter stadium. Tickets for each day can be acquired online from the site www.myticket.ro and from Diverta stores for RON 90, RON 160 and RON 220. Faithless is the first band confirmed to be performing during the festival, on July 16. Another confirmed band is Pink Martini (in pic), one of the most renowned jazz-lounge and fusion bands, who will return to Bucharest on July 17. Gary Moore will play on the third day.

Irish band The Cranberries (in pic) will perform on July 20 on the Iolanda Balas Soter stadium. The band returned to worldwide attention last year after a long absence. Tickets can be bought from the Germanos, Vodafone, Carturesti and Humanitas networks or from the site www.eventim.ro.

Youssou N’Dour, famous for the smash hit 7 Seconds, will come to Arenele Romane in the capital on July 30. Tickets for this concert cost RON 90, RON 120 or RON 160 and are on sale from the site myticket.ro and Diverta stores.
