Local smartphone market will grow by 30 percent this year from 2.5 – 2.7 million units sold in 2014, amid the ongoing trend of customer migration from feature phones to smartphones, said the head of Samsung Telecom Romania’s Telecom division, Alexandru Munteanu.
“Many mobile phone users migrate from a feature phone to a smartphone and I think that there is sufficient room for growth on this market. In the first half of last year, the sales of feature phones were still consistent, but as smartphone prices fell, the sales increased. The first two months of this year brought increases of over 30 percent on the segment of smartphones and I expect that by yearend, on average, the increase to be around 30 percent,” said Munteanu, as quoted by Mediafax.
