Polish company AmRest Holdings announced on Friday that it has taken over the Starbucks franchise in Romania and Bulgaria, in a deal estimated at EUR 16 million.
“AmRest Holdings has fully taken over the two companies operating the Starbucks chains in Romania and Bulgaria. The final price of the transaction will be determined when closing the deal and the purchase of Starbucks networks in Romania and Bulgaria fits perfectly with our strategy and provides the means to enter the Romanian market, the second largest in Central Europe, with an increasing dynamic economy,” reads a release of AmRest Holdings, quoted by Mediafax.
AmRest owns the franchise for the Starbucks network since 2007, when it opened its first coffee shop in Prague, and currently operates 67 coffee shops in Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
Following the transaction, the company will operate also the 14 coffee shops in Romania and 5 in Bulgaria.
Last year, four Starbucks coffee shops were opened in Romania, and this year another 7 units will be opened, out of which a few are already in operation.
