Mangalia tourist port to get EUR 3.9 mln facelift

Mangalia city hall has a EUR 3.9 million investment plan laid out to upgrade the city’s current sea port into a tourist resort. The plan includes the setting up of green areas, parks and playgrounds, a mini-golf area and a platform for terraces and stores. Works on the project are expected to last 19 months, covering the design, bidding process and execution of the construction works.

The past few years have seen the port fall into decline, without proper infrastructure, green or entertainment spaces. “It was high time for yachting lovers to have a modern port, with all the facilities necessary for well-run competitions. Besides, it is an investment that will attract both sailing aficionados and tourists. And this will mean the economic development of the city,” said Mihai Claudiu Tusac, the mayor of Mangalia.

The port has been the starting point of yachting competitions over the past years, and many owners keep their boats anchored there. The refurbishment project includes the setting up of 40 boat docking spaces, and an access area for a marina to be built.

Besides the green areas and walking spaces, refurbishment works also entail new lighting systems, street furniture and planned administrative spaces to guide the port’s activities and visitors.
