TVR News, TVR 3, TVR HD and TVR Moldova may be closed on the grounds that they fall outside Law 41 regulating the functioning and organization of the institution, according to Stelian Tanase, president-general manager of the Romanian Television. However, a final decision in this sense has not been made, said Tanase for Mediafax newswire.

“Law 41 stipulates just four channels: TVR 1, TVR 2, TVR International and the local stations. The rest fall outside the law. We are taking into consideration coming back to the legal framework as it was designed in Parliament in 1994. Nothing is being said about TVR News, TVR 3, TVR HD and TVR Moldova and the law is the law. But there are discussions between us, no decision was made,” said Stelian Tanase.

When asked if he is considering closing these channels, Tanase said: “we are taking into account respecting the law. We shall see, discussions are barely starting. These are just proposals,” he said.

Tanase was voted on June 16 by the plenum of the two Chambers of Parliament as president of the administration board of the Romanian Television Company, with 339 votes in favor and 45 votes against.
