Romania’s trade deficit narrowed by 3.45 percent in the first nine months of the year against the same period of 2009, reaching EUR 6.89 billion, according to data published by the National Statistics Institute (INS). In September alone, the trade deficit was of EUR 784.1 million, about 34 percent less than in September 2009.

This was generated by a larger increase of exports which hiked to EUR 26.8 billion (+26.5 percent) while imports reached EUR33.7 billion (+18.9 percent). Vehicles had the largest share in Romania’s external trade between January and August, amounting to 42 percent of overall exports and 35 percent of the imports, according to the same source.
