Claudiu Saftoiu has submitted his resignation from the position of president and general manager of the public television channel. He was elected president of the administration board of the public television (SRTV) at the end of June 2013.
The resignation came just hours before the TVR activity report for 2012 was due for debate in parliament, according to Hotnews.ro. A negative vote would be equivalent to Saftoiu’s dismissal as president of the institution.
In his resignation letter, Saftoiu made an appeal to the Parliament to maintain “ the attributions of the deliberation body of the public television- the Administration Council- and thus avoid a situation without escape for the Romanian Television by rejecting the Report of Activity for 2012.”
Saftoiu also said it was impossible to respect all the obligations assumed in the program for the economic recovery of the public television.
Saftoiu was presidential adviser starting with 2004, from the first term as president of Traian Basescu until 2006 when he was appointed director of the Foreign Intelligence Service. In March 2007, he resigned from this role.
