Romania and China signed several agreements on live animal and meat exports, technology and energy this Monday during the visit of Chinese PM Li Keqiang to Bucharest.
Romanian agriculture minister previously announced that Romania will start exporting live cattle to China. An agreement settling this was signed today by Vladimir Manastireanu, the head of the head of the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) and Huo Yuzhen, the Chinese ambassador to Bucharest.
Cattle exports to China are estimated to amount to some 500,000 Baltata romaneasca (local cow breed) cows to be delivered over the next 7-10 years. This should bring Romanian farmers some EUR 500 million.
The first shipment of some 4,000 – 5,000 cows could be made in January 2014, according to Mediafax. This will make Romania the first European country to export live cattle to China and the fourth in the world after Australia, New Zealand and Uruguay.
Li Keqiang is the first Chinese PM to come to Bucharest in the last 19 years.
